"To be culturally connected is to be empowered in the essence of who you are"-Ayasha
Deep-rooted traditions are the inspiration to branding Indigenous Fashion. It is important for me (Ayasha) to understand well the cultural traditions of my tribe. This enables me to have a strong base for my designs while building my brand. As an Indigenous woman, I strive to design pieces that make you feel stronger. Although, cultural traditions are my base I also feel the dire need to incorporate new trends such as colors and patterns throughout my collections.
Cultural appreciation is essential for the fashion industry. "To be culturally connected is to be empowered in the essence of who you are"-Ayasha 2019. Fashion design is the art of applying design, aesthetics and natural beauty to clothing and its accessories. As a designer, I am influenced by my cultural and social attitudes when I design. As a fashion designer, I work in a number of ways in designing clothing and accessories such as bracelets and necklaces.
I strongly believe in letting my personality and Ojibwe culture shine in all that I do. Empowering myself as a woman is formed from being confident in who I am and what it is I like in fashion. Confidence is built from being artistic with cultural roots that enable me to pull unusual designs together. Branding fashion begins by believing in yourself and feeling good about yourself as well.
Art is an incredible tool that can be transformed and used in many different ways. A traditional artist I began exploring modern forms of art such as design. Fashion is an extraordinary form of building confidence. The more I began designing cultural fashion the more I became empowered to discover what suits me in the fashion industry. When I design, manufacture, and wear a Regalia for a Powwow my confidence is empowered the minute I walk in the circle. With modern fashion, I am able to share part of that empowerment with the world through my designs. "To be culturally connected is to be empowered in the essence of who you are"-Ayasha
